Since their formation in 1983, the British band The Caravans have firmly staked out their territory between traditional rockabilly and modern psychobilly. The band's frontman, singer, and guitarist is former sailor Mark Pennington. After being discharged from the Navy, he played in various bands in Portsmouth—the breeding ground for what would later become The Caravans. Pennington took inspiration for the band's name from rockabilly musician Billy Pragar, whose backing band in the 1950s was called The Caravvans.

The first lineup of The Caravans consisted of Brian Gilman, Darren Francis, and Rich Caso. The trio's debut album, "Easy Money", was released in 1988. With the record under their belt, they quickly landed gigs in London, followed by a tour. However, tensions arose, leading to Gilman and Francis leaving the band afterward. Despite this, The Caravans managed to record another album, "No Excuses".

Lineup changes remained a constant for The Caravans. Caso also left the band due to the increasing stress of touring. Many other members only joined for a single tour or recording session. Nevertheless, new albums like "Glamorous Heart" and "Return To Zero" were released. The band's gigs even took them to the legendary New York club CBGB's.

Two worth mentioning releases are "On The Rock" EP and "Action of Slander" mini album
